Dr. Daniel Yergin, Chairman, Cambridge Energy Research Associates
Dr. Yergin is a highly respected authority on international politics and economics and on energy. Dr. Yergin is a Pulitzer Prize winner and recipient of the United States Energy Award for "lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding." He is both a world-recognized author and a business leader, as Chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA). With 200 employees around the world, CERA is one of the world's leading consulting and research firms in its field.

His latest book, The Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy, with Joseph Stanislaw, has received wide attention for its analysis and narrative of how the "world is changing its mind about markets and government." The Wall Street Journal said, "No one could ask for a better account of the world's political and economic destiny since World War II." It has been translated into 13 languages. Dr. Yergin received the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for his work The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which became a #1 national best seller and was made into an eight-hour PBS/BBC series seen by 20 million people in the United States. The book has been translated into 12 languages.

Dr. Yergin is a Trustee of the Brookings Institution and a member of the Committee on Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a member of the Board of the United States Energy Association and a member of the National Petroleum Council. He has also chaired the US Department of Energy's Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development. He is a Director of the US-Russian Business Council, the Atlantic Partnership, and the New America Foundation. Dr. Yergin received his BA from Yale University, and his PhD from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar. He previously taught at the Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.


N.J. Nicholas, Jr. Chairman, Board of Environmental Defense
Nicholas, who joined Time Inc. in 1964, held a number of executive positions during his thirty year career with the company. He was named president of Time Inc. in 1986 and served as co-chief executive officer of Time Warner Inc. until February 1992. Nicholas is a director of the Boston Scientific Corporation, Xerox Corporation and Time Warner Cable. He has served as a member of the board of Turner Broadcasting, Bankers Trust Company, Priceline and of the President's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations and the President's Commission on Environmental Quality. Nicholas is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Environmental Defense and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Nicholas attended Phillips Academy at Andover, Mass., received an A.B. degree magna cum laude in economics from Princeton University and an M.B.A. degree from the Harvard Business School.


James Ding Chariman and Co-Founder, AsianInfo
Mr. Ding served as Chief Executive Officer and president of AsiaInfo from May 1999 until April 2003 and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of AsiaInfo since the company's inception. He was Senior Vice President for Business Development and Chief Technology Officer from 1997 to 1999. Prior to that, Mr. Ding was the company's Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer from 1993 to 1997. Mr. Ding has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Chinese Entrepreneurs by Chinese Media, the 2002 Global Chinese Entrepreneur of the Year by BusinessWeek and a Global Leader for Tomorrow by World Economic Forum. Mr. Ding graduated with an MS from the Haas Business School, received his MS from UCLA, and holds a BS in Chemistry, Peking University, China.


Dr. Alexis Bell Professor of Chemical Engineering, UC Berkeley; Faculty Sr. Scientist, LBNL
Dr. Bell holds a Sc.D. and a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Bell's achievements have been extensively recognized by his peers, and he has received numerous awards, including: The Curtis W. McGraw Award for Research from the American Association of Engineering Education; the Professional Progress and R. H. Wilhelm Awards from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; the Paul H. Emmett Award in Fundamental Catalysis from the Catalysis Society; the National Academy of Engineering; Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1988); and the American Chemical Society Award for Creative Research in Homogeneous or Heterogeneous Catalysis from the American Chemical Society. In 2001, Dr. Bell was made an Honorary Professor at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.


Dr. Janet X. Liu Vice General Manager, Beijing Investment Consultants, Inc.
In her current position, Dr. Liu advises and assists Chinese clients and government organizations in corporate reorganization, project finance, private placement, merger & acquisition, IPO and other finance-related corporate transactions. Dr. Liu has rich experience in corporate finance, investment and enterprise restructuring. She has joined China Science Commercial Hi-tech Corp., Ltd. and participated in hundreds of national research Project evaluations since 1989 for the National Science Committee. After joining BICI, Dr. Liu has been responsible for diagnosing large joint-venture enterprise, making long-term strategic planning, conducting investment research and devising enterprise restructuring. She has also supported many enterprises with valuable consultation and proposals in the field of investment and financing. She has been involved in stock issuing and listing of A share and H share for a number of large state-owned companies such as Jiangxi Copper Corporation Ltd. and Huaneng International Power. Dr. Liu received her B.S. degree in Physics from Zhongshan University and Ph.D. in Physics Science from University of Rochester. Dr. Liu is also a licensed attorney at law in China.


Dr. Zhi Gao Professor of Chemistry, Fudan University, China
Dr. Gao was formerly a Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut, the University of California Berkeley , and a Visiting Scientist at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London . She has been the Chair of the Chemistry Department and the Academic Committee at Fudan University , Vice Chair of the Shanghai Society of Chemistry and Chemical Industry, and Member of the Science and Technology Committee of the China Ministry of Education. Dr. Gao has received numerous awards including the China Ministry of Education Award in Science and Technology, the National Invention Award, and the Shanghai Significant Achievement Award in Science and Technology.


Kevin McMahon Retired Partner, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP
Mr. McMahon has over 40 years of experience in patent litigation, licensing, preparation and prosecution. During his 17 years at Weil, Gotshal and Manges, where he co-founded the firm's patent litigation and counseling group, Mr. McMahon represented companies such as ExxonMobil, Pirelli, NMB Semiconductor, ST Microelectronics, United Healthcare subsidiary, Ingenix, and others in patent infringement litigation. At WG&M, Mr. McMahon also represented clients in patent interferences and oppositions before the U.S. and European Patent Offices, and in intellectual property aspects of major corporate transactions. His practice further included counseling clients on patent validity, enforceability and infringement issues, and on patent enforcement and licensing strategies.

Before joining WG&M, Mr. and had been a partner in the New York patent boutique law firm where he counseled corporate clients on patent infringement and validity issues and represented them in license negotiations and other transactions. He also practiced in ex-parte and contested matters before the U.S. and foreign patent offices.

Previously, Mr. McMahon had been Chief Patent Counsel of Schlumberger Limited where he headed of 30 lawyer Patent Department that had responsibility for matters concerning the development, acquisition, protection, licensing, enforcement and use of technology and intellectual property rights for a worldwide company engaged in the oilfield services, semiconductor, electronic instrumentation, and computer-aided design/manufacturing industries.

Following his graduation from law school, Mr. McMahon was a patent attorney at Ing. C. Olivetti & C. SpA in Italy and became Patent Counsel of its U.S. operating company, where he initiated a successful program for licensing Italian developed manufacturing technology to companies in the U.S.

He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Electrical Engineering and earned his JD degree at Georgetown University.
